"i know i have no collar was originally just me (tom) and aaron. we are named after a missing cat poster written in the first person... we decided to start a band based on a tape of a few keyboard things aaron recorded and my desire to be in as many bands as possible. we made up four songs in aaron's living room with sam jones asleep on the sofa, waking him up ocasionally to ask for titles. our first show was at the opening of the here shop and gallery in bristol. our second was supporting the animal collective by which time we had about six songs and some fancy homemade t-shirts. aaron bought a farfisa keyboard from bedminster bargains and we wrote some better songs. we worked out how to play "hey ya" and i started drumming more. we played a bunch more shows and wrote some new songs. in july 2004 we went to fránçois' house to record our album "i'm missing" for stitch-stitch records and some cover songs for "i know these aren't our songs". at shows and on record fránçois started playing trumpet with us. in summer 2005 we recorded "these are our numbers" which was full of pop hits and we were excited about, but then aaron went to canada for a while and the record never got released. then francois moved away, aaron came back and we started trying new things. nat joined on bass and we embraced our inner funk (not really). we had some loud rehearsals and asked steve to play some clarinet to try and fill the hole left by francois' trumpet. liam then joined us on trombone and we had more practices and did some awful, awful shows, then we did some good ones. before we knew we had a whole bunch of new songs, some of which we recorded for "a little slow, a little late" which is more ambitious than anything we've previously recorded, including some wild group singing and real rocking out!!" - tom x
